What makes education technology different

Load in education is extraordinarily concentrated. A campus system can sit at a few hundred concurrent users for months and then face every student, parent and applicant simultaneously in a ten-minute window when results publish. That window is also the least acceptable moment to fail.

The second distinguishing feature is that a large share of users are minors, and another large share are parents acting on their behalf. That shapes consent, data retention and communication design in ways that a general business system never has to consider.

There's also a device and channel reality: families reach these systems on phones rather than laptops, and communication has to meet them where they actually read it.

Consent belongs to the guardian

Processing a child's personal data generally requires verifiable guardian consent. That must be modelled in the data — who consented, to what, and when — not assumed by enrolment.

Parents see their own child only

Row-level access tied to a verified guardian relationship, tested explicitly. This is the access-control bug with the worst consequences in this sector.

Retention has an end date

Student records don't need to be held indefinitely. Retention rules are defined per data type and enforced by the system rather than left to policy.

Communication respects the channel

Messages about a child go to the registered guardian on a consented channel, with opt-out honoured and delivery recorded.

Our admissions portal crashes every year. Can you fix it?

Usually, and usually without a rebuild. A load test against realistic concurrency finds the specific bottleneck — commonly an unindexed query, a synchronous payment call or a session store that doesn't scale horizontally. Come to us with two months before the window and there's time to fix it properly.

Should we replace our campus system or integrate with it?

Integrate first, in most cases. Campus and school management systems are deeply embedded in staff routines, and replacing one is a multi-year disruption. Building the missing layer around it and connecting what exists usually delivers more, faster, and at a fraction of the risk.

How do you handle parent communication?

Through our communication platform: SMS, WhatsApp and email with consent capture, opt-out handling and delivery receipts. For fee reminders and attendance alerts, being able to prove delivery matters as much as sending.

Do you build learning management systems?

We build them and we integrate with existing ones — and we'll often recommend the latter. Mature LMS products cover the core well; the gap is usually integration with your student records, single sign-on and reporting, which is where a custom build earns its cost.

When is the best time to start a project with us?

Immediately after your peak window closes. That gives a full cycle to build, test and rehearse before the next one. Projects started six weeks before admissions open are limited to what can be changed safely, which is much less than people expect.
